Tonight, It’s Personal

I apologize to my clients, friends and family who check my blog daily to see new images from recent sessions. But, today has been a hard day. And one I shall not soon forget. This past Friday, some friends of ours baby died at age 2 and 1/2 months and today I went to his funeral. Dixon was a twin and died in the bed next to his brother. The images today of the tiny casket and his parents gripping each other in grief and their other little boy (age 4) running around completely unaware of the circumstances are etched in my mind. Personally, I cannot begin to imagine their grief and pain. But, they are surrounded by friends, family and a loving church who will be there for them.

Professionally, this has also been a tragedy for me. I have read so many articles in magazines and journals from photographers who captured a baby or a family and then the baby died and the photographer could present the family with a precious portrait of their sweet baby for them to treasure. Well, I was scheduled a few weeks ago to photograph the twins and for some reason, we had to cancel and had planned on rescheduling their session, but had not done that yet. Now, the time has passed. I would give anything to go back and relive that day and instead of cancelling that appointment, I would have photographed them! So, in the future, if there is anything at all I can do, I will not be putting off photographing a newborn baby or babies. None of us know the number of days we have here. But, I am committed to doing what I possibly can do to provide young families with precious portraits of their sweet babies.

Tonight, I pray God’s peace and comfort on Dixon’s parents, brothers and the rest of the family.
