Jared, Brooke and Family

•November 11, 2009 • Leave a Comment

A more perfect evening in West Texas I cannot imagine!  No wind, temp in the 70’s and a lovely family to photograph at the home of their grandparents on Lake Fort Phantom.  Brooke grew up here and has so many wonderful memories of this place! I know that these images will help them and their children keep those memories alive of such a special homeplace!

Marshall, Melanie and Baby Laney

•November 7, 2009 • 2 Comments

What a wonderful morning I spent photographing baby Laney with her sweet mom and dad!  She is six days old here and just precious!  Both of her grandmothers were there to watch this “first” photo session and it was so sweet to look at the joy on their faces as they watched their son and daughter with their first child.  Another reason why I love photographing families! Even new ones!

Christmas Carousel!

•November 5, 2009 • Leave a Comment

The Junior League Christmas Carousel is an Abilene tradition in the month of November!  I’ve attended a couple of times through the past years, but this is my first time to actually be a merchant there!  My good friend, Rachel, owns Hope Chest Clothing Company and we are sharing a booth combining her beautiful handwork with my portraits.  I’m not actually selling anything, but just being more visible and getting to know lots of local people and let them know about me!

However, if you know anyone wanting to get their portraits made, tell them to stop by my booth and if they schedule a session and pay their session fee at the event, they will get a complimentary 8×10 portrait from their session!  (a $75. value)  Come talk to me or Cindy to reserve your time.

Don’t forget to write your letters and get them to me asap suggesting a person or family to have their portraits made and receive beautiful portraits for their home at no cost to them!   The deadline is November 15th to get your letters to me!

Also, 100% of my November session fees are being donated to feed the less fortunate here in Abilene.

Courtney and Caitlyn

Obviously, I had “twice” as much fun on this Senior Session!  I will refrain from any more puns however!  Courtney and Caitlyn are serious athletes at a local high school being involved in both tennis and soccer.  While they have been State tennis players, they are considering soccer in college and maybe even get to stay close to home!  These girls are beautiful and very sweet and were a lot of fun to spend time with!  I’m lovin’ these Fall colors!

Amanda, Senior 2010

•October 27, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Beautiful Amanda is a local high school senior here in Abilene!  She has these amazing blue eyes and such a sweet smile…in other words, easy to photograph!  She’s also a budding photographer, so we had fun talking about lighting and other important details!  Her mother and grandmother came with us for her session, so make sure you view the last image in this series for a beautiful three generation portrait!

Thankful and Blessed…A Time to Give

blessings

As I sit here at my desk this morning (almost noon, actually) it is a chilly 48 degrees out and a strong North wind which means it feels a lot colder!  I wouldn’t know how cold that wind feels though, because I am sitting at my desk in my nice, warm office.  I have a Vanilla Caramel candle burning and listening to some soft music while I work on beautiful images.  I also have a pashmina around my shoulders which is my most favorite thing when the weather dips below 7o degrees.  I feel very blessed to have such a rich life.  Not rich by how much money I have made, but rich in blessings of warmth, food, health, friends and family and home.

However, I live in a town where I work very near the homeless.  I photograph around their “homes” all over Abilene.  I even have one kind man who even waves at us now when we are near him.  I am keenly aware of those who have lost jobs and are having a difficult time making it from one day to another.

So, as the weather becomes colder and Fall and Winter set in and the holidays are drawing near, it has been on my heart to find a way to give back to my community.  This community has certainly been more than good to me!  After prayerful consideration, here is what I have decided to do:

1.  My session fee is $65.  That fee is for my 90 minutes spent photographing your family, senior or children; downloading images and processing them for you to view; artwork, preparing slideshows, etc.  DURING THE MONTH OF NOVEMBER, 100% OF MY SESSION FEES WILL GO TO FEED THE HUNGRY OF ABILENE.  My calendar is almost full for November, which already means a lot of money is going to be donated!  However, if you have been thinking about getting your portraits made for the holidays, let me encourage you to think about November!  Not only will you be getting portraits to share with your family (what else could they possibly want?), but you’ll know that you, too,  have helped with feeding those less fortunate.

2. Do you know of someone that you think would REALLY benefit from having their portrait made?  Maybe a single mom raising children all alone or someone facing a serious illness and a family portrait would be a priceless gift or someone you work with who you know their story and want to do something good for them?  I am asking you to write me a one page letter telling me their story, details, background, etc.  I will read these letters and choose one for a COMPLIMENTARY SESSION AND A 16X20 FRAMED PORTRAIT.  (also 2- 8×10’s; 2- 5×7’s and 8 wallets)  This session will be on Sunday, November 29th at 4pm.  I am hoping to have local merchants available to do small makeovers, etc so they will feel very special on their session day. (more details to follow)  The person who submitted the chosen letter will also receive a complimentary session fee on their next session!  The DEADLINE  FOR SUBMITTING LETTERS IS NOVEMBER 15th and the winner will be notified on November 18th.  You may either mail your letter to Pure Photography   2010 Marathon Rd. Abilene, TX  79601 or email it to me at debbie@pure-photography.com.  I do NOT want to know the name of the family you are recommending until the winning letter has been chosen.  Only your name and contact information should be included.

I am VERY excited about these two endeavors!  Please consider joining me in making the holidays a little brighter for those who are struggling or less fortunate.

Getting ready for the holidays, this precious family was the first to sign up for our Holiday Mini-Sessions!  It was a beautiful day, the twins were in good spirits and Mr. Mark was there to help, so this is the recipe for great images!

Shane, Mary, Sharlotte, Noah and Jackson

Such a sweet family I photographed last evening on the ACU campus!  The weather was very beautiful and barely a breeze! Shane and Mary have lived and raised their family in the Abilene area.  Shane works building these amazing wind farms, Mary works for a local heating/cooling company and Sharlotte is an ACU student.  Noah is 4 years old and Jackson is 3 years old and they were just the most well behaved little guys!  I enjoyed my time with this wonderful family and they are going to love all their images!  Here is just a sample:

When I look at these images, I can’t help but think of a needlework piece hanging in their home years ago that said, “There’s always room for one more!”  There was a time when Cindy and Eddie thought they might not be able to have children.  However, four children and three grandchildren later….look at this loving family now!  These are sweet images taken right in their own front yard!
